1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling, the i3 EVO. They differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. That makes the i3+ an excellent option for those looking for an automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of taking the time to empty their robot's trash bin when it fills up.
Both robots are good at removing surface dirt on carpets and hard floors, and they can easily navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates intelligent maps of your home that aid the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. However, unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots we test, the i3+ doesn't have a feature for avoiding obstacles and therefore it could be stuck on things like socks or power cords, and may have issues in navigating through transitions between surfaces like from hardwood to rug.
iRobot suggests that you clear areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, including putting away any clutter or toys it might encounter. It's also recommended to keep the bin and filter clean so they aren't clogged by dirt. When the i3+'s internal bin is full or the battery is low it goes back to its docking station, automatically empties its dirt into the station's dust bin, and then continues cleaning the area where it left off. The battery's lifespan is around an hour-and-a-half of continuous use. It takes about three hours to charge.
2. iRobot i7+ Roomba
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model of the flagship line from iRobot and is equipped with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and the most important feature of all -- it comes with an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.
The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that allows it to map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and control your robot with voice or via the app.
In our tests the i7+ performed more agile and faster than our top choice and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surface kinds, including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin which removes major maintenance sources and reduces recurring cost.
We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning session, move itself around the room and vacuum an area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. After being connected, to voice commands to the i7+, like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
This tiny Dyson model is an athletic car that is amidst a sea of cordless vacuums that feel like minivans and buses. It's powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in a majority of homes, yet it is also small enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.
The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system removes allergens, and then releases cleaner air back into your home. Its cleaning head is specially designed and drives bristles made of nylon that are stiff into carpets to trap large particles and fine dust. It has three suction modes to match the task at hand. It can quickly switch from handheld to floor vacuum and vice versa.
This model has an attached dock that charges the Dyson to 100 percent in 3.5 hours. It also gives an easy access to two attachments and the handheld. This is a huge improvement over the older Dysons models, which require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.
The V10's main drawback is its limited running time. The tests conducted by CR show that its advertising claims of up to 60 minutes are misleading. This is an average, not an exceptional, run time for a battery-powered cordless vac. This is enough time to clean the typical home however, it's not enough time to reach every area. (A second time is usually sufficient). That's not to say this model doesn't have its advantages: It's lighter and mobile than the older cordless Dysons and its vacuuming performance is noticeably better on carpets with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
One of the most well-known robot vacuums the 694 is an affordable model that's an excellent choice for people who don't want to spend too much money on a robot. It was able to remove most types of debris and sizes during our tests, and frequently went over the same area multiple times for a thorough clean. The flat front of the unit allows it reach into corners and along the walls' edges, which is a nice addition.
Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt technology to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home. However, it isn't equipped with the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, such as our top picks, i3+EVO and the j7+ Series. It can get stuck on phone cords or low furniture and will often run out of power before returning to its home base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694, as it has less parts that require regular cleaning, is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtration system, incurs lower recurring cost and is more sophisticated in its automation capabilities and can better navigate its own. It also has a bigger dustbin and can charge faster.

It also feels better-built, has a more powerful motor, and performs notably better on bare floors and carpets with low pile, while offering a wider range of automation options.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a name you see on all sorts of home electronics It's no surprise that they're one of the most popular mop and robot vacuum manufacturers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is equipped with cutting-edge onboard technology for navigation and obstacle avoidance.
The app offers a wide range of options for customizing your robotic cleaner. These include mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior adjustments, docking frequency settings and much more. The app is simple to use and understand as are other Samsung devices.
In our testing, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) very well, picking up 86% of it. It didn't do very well in avoiding taller items such as cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than other models we've tested, and this could be a deterrent for certain shoppers.
The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that you can access via the app. You can also set up a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature lets you to monitor your children or pets when you're away. The filter and the dust bin can be washed for quick, easy cleanup. The app allows you to manually steer the robot, if necessary. My living room rug, for example, has a darkly-colored border which could cause a problem for other robots. However, the HRV 425BL continued to move across the border, without registering it as an incline. Also, the ability to set up the weekly cleaning schedule is a great time-saving convenience.
